The Ideal Millennial Candidate

Millennials make up the largest generation in the North American workforce according to Pew Research and Stats Can. So if employers are looking for new hires they can’t ignore Millennials. But how does an employer find the ideal job candidate from that group? Outside of the obvious of ignoring stereotypes and using social media as a recruiting tool, there are a few things employers and recruiters can look for that can increase the odds of finding the ideal millennial employee.

Look for Symmetry

Look for candidates that align with your company’s mission and values. The best way to do this is to state up front in the job description what those values are and what the company stands for. The more clear those values and ideals are, the better chance that someone who shares them will apply.

Find the Passion

Passion drives many millennials. Look for those who want to make an impact. The more pointed and clear they are about their passions, the more driven they they are to be successful. And the more those passions are tied to your company’s values and goals the better candidate.

Seek out Purpose

An ideal candidate has purpose. If they don’t fully understand their purpose, give them a sense of purpose. Show them how working for your company fits into a long term plan for their career growth. If they respond well to that, then you have a potentially good employee.
